Day 01: Hanoi – Hoang Su Phi

Sooo, after more than 70 years of wandering the earth, doing a little bit of this, a little bit of that, I feel like my body is telling me to take this trip to a place called the never-coming-backland. This one guy, in a white coat, who comes to my house every month to reassure my family about my wellbeing, has just talked about this too. I could have told my family first, damn spoiler. For sure, this is a one-way trip, the chance is once in a lifetime, no way I’m not taking it, hah.
I have lived all my life to the fullest, so there is not one damn big regret. But if you ask me, yes, there are these some teeny tiny regrets. Being not so much of a secret, I’m willing to share with you below:
1) My kids have spoiled me with millennial stuff like Uber, right to your door food delivery, Netflix and chill, and such things. I’m so used to them that it will be a massive loss if there’s nothing like that once I’m settled down in my new place. Adapting to a new life somewhere else while it’s not so convenient does not sound like a win-win game at all, right? You can argue that there’s no such afterlife, but hey, you cannot be 100% sure without being there first. If anyone can prove this, in the soonest time possible, it should be me. Just you wait.
2) This upcoming trip seems to lead to a very long stay. I would have all the time in the world for my comic book collection. But I treasure it more than anything, of course, my wife knows this, I can’t risk taking them with me. When the condition is right, maybe I will come back every night and sneak a peek at it myself. Take that as a heads-up for you to refrain from going to my room at late night. Boo! […]
There is a monster in me and I call it by the name, notorious to everyone, Laziness.
As harmless as its name may sound, it can slowly ruin your mental and physical health. It would often sweet-talk me into doing nonsensical things like playing video games or reading comics while I was having projects to be done, which would burn my time quickly and force me to pour everything into in the remaining few hours to complete the crazy workload.
From my experience, if we let Laziness take over from time to time, the tendency to act lazily will eventually become something of a habit. And it’s bad, for everything else, obviously.
Laziness is absolutely a tough opponent but no way it’s unbeatable. I have discovered something that could scare off Lazinesss, it goes by the name Deadline. And yes, as frightening as its name, whenever Deadline comes near, Laziness can hardly be found.

Buổi chụp cuối không làm cả nhóm bớt hào hứng mà trái lại tất cả đều hăng hái “thu hoạch” từ không khí mua bán nhộn nhịp và ánh sáng xiên xiên của giờ vàng. Phần còn lại của ngày, cả lớp cùng ngồi lại thảo luận, chia sẻ, tổng kết những gì đã học được.
Chia tay lớp, người ở lại Hội An, người quay về Sài Gòn, mỗi người lại tiếp tục với công việc, kế hoạch riêng của mình. Khoá học và người hướng dẫn đã thổi vào mỗi người một thứ có thể gọi bằng độc một từ đơn giản nhưng mang nhiều ý nghĩa – “street”. Được học hỏi từ người hướng dẫn và các bạn học viên, đặc biệt là được nhận xét, gợi ý về cách phát triển trong tương lai phù hợp với bản thân, việc tham gia khoá học lần này là một thu hoạch lớn với bản thân tôi. Dù chưa chắc đã theo nghiệp ảnh, những gì học được từ khoá học cũng sẽ giúp tôi “chơi” ảnh đúng cách hơn, bài bản hơn, thi vị hơn.

Vì nếu bạn đã đến, và đi hết được những địa danh nổi tiếng như chùa Bái Đính, Tam Cốc – Bích Động, khu du lịch sinh thái nằm trong Quần thể di sản thế giới Tràng An, vườn chim Thung Nham, vườn quốc gia Cúc Phương, cố đô Hoa Lư … thì vẫn còn đó những núi Non Nước, nhà thờ Phát Diệm, hang Múa, đầm Vân Long, các đền thờ các vị vua, danh tướng của ngày xưa, ….

Theo các báo cáo, thống kê về các tác động của đại dịch COVID-19, tại Việt Nam, doanh thu ngành dịch vụ giảm 9,6% so với cùng kỳ năm ngoái. Số doanh nghiệp trong lĩnh vực dịch vụ ăn uống tạm ngừng hoạt động quý 1/2020 tăng 29.3% so với cùng kỳ năm 2019 và rất nhiều con số đáng lo ngại khác. Chiều Sài Gòn cuối tháng 10, hành trình tìm người thợ sửa máy ảnh film kì cựu nhất Sài Gòn cuối cùng cũng dừng lại ở tiệm máy ảnh Phi Bằng trên đường Huỳnh Thúc Kháng, Quận 1. Bởi địa chỉ tìm được trên mạng đã thay đổi, tôi cũng phải loay hoay ít lâu trước đấy mới tìm được đến đúng người thợ này.
Chú ngồi ở một góc nhỏ ở đó, sau một chiếc tủ kính ngăn nắp những đồ nghề có gắn tấm bảng đề “Sửa máy ảnh”. Tôi đến cùng lúc chú vừa sửa xong một chiếc máy. Trao đổi qua, biết tôi đến để xin phỏng vấn, chú cười, từ tốn xếp gọn đồ lại. Câu chuyện bắt đầu trên nền âm thanh khe khẽ của chiếc radio để bàn. Một không gian hoài niệm.
